Kyra Challen

PgDipl Psychodynamic Therapeutic Counselling, MBACP

Hi, my name's Kyra and I'm an experienced psychodynamic therapeutic counsellor.

I have experience working with bereavement & grief, young adults and people who have served time in prison and I welcome you, whatever your background or situation, to talk about whatever it is that troubles you at this time. I am interested in your unique story. I work psychodynamically, which simply means that, if you want, we can look to your past to try and find some clues as to what is going on in your present.

I work with people who feel unhappy or stuck in their relationship or career to find the confidence they need to make positive changes. I am able to sit with unresolved grief to help you find ways to live around loss. I support people who find themselves quick to anger in understanding - and finding new approaches to - their frustrations.

I am also particularly interested in working with people who have experience in the criminal justice sector, including prisons, and those who are in or approaching significant life events and who need to make difficult decisions. I am passionate about working with people to change destructive behaviours and overcome challenges, as well as exploring problems or situation to find new perspectives.

Counselling is a conversation. A conversation unlike any other. A space to speak without judgement and to explore whatever is concerning you. Our emotional lives are complex and feelings are not always easy to experience or to talk about. Coming to counselling can be daunting, as can the idea of actively examining your life, relationships and emotions. I understand that it can feel difficult and I am here to accompany you - not as a tour guide telling you what to do and where to go -  but as a fellow traveller through your emotional landscape walking beside you on your journey, listening to whatever you bring and helping you to come to your own conclusions and find what’s right for you at this time.

My experience working both long and short-term means we can be flexible in our approach to your problem(s). Whether it feels like a specific barrier is blocking you from moving on in life, or whether you are not sure what is “wrong” but things just don’t feel quite “right”: we can talk about it. I aim to help you find new ways of looking at things, build meaningful relationships and work out how past experiences may be influencing your current situation.
